Facts on Gorillas
They live in groups of over 20 members with each group lasting for over 20 years. In such groups, there is an alpha male called the silverback which leads the group. Silverback is derived from the fact that male gorillas when they age their hair on the back turn silver.
Female gorillas approach their breeding stages after about 10 years with a gestation period of 8.5 months.
They weigh about 340 pounds and can live up to 54 years. They live in groups of about 20 – 30 members.
Mountain Gorillas have 98.5% DNA similar to that of Humans. They got no tails and have quite similar emotions to humans of laughing when tickled and crying when hurt.
Gorillas are Vegan, eating about 49 pounds of vines and leaves per day.
